The City of Martensdale was founded in 1913 by John F. Martens and Walter H. Beam. Our town is 20 miles southwest of the state capital at the junction of Highways 28 and 92, and 10 miles from the Warren County courthouse in Indianola.
The City lay between three railroads: the Des Moines Osceola Southern (which became Burlington), Rock Island, and the Great Western; running as many as 30 trains per day. The last train service was in 1986.
